Design and Build of Paediatric Classroom For Hospital
Cyclo have recently completed building an extension to the Wollongong Public Hospital which involved enclosing a third storey balcony. This newly enclosed area, along with an adjacent room has created a new paediatric classroom. This was undertaken on a design and construct basis and despite the complexities due to being at the intersection of multiple fire compartments the project was designed and built without significant variations and handover was completed prior to the required due date.
The project offered some challenges along the way such as discovering there was no realistic crane access to a third storey site as well as working within / adjacent to an operating Paediatric ward. Solutions were engineered including steel work which could be lifted in internal lifts and manual handling and light weight fire rated walls which could be installed from one side. This demonstrates one of our core values. We make things happen. We take projects from being a client’s dream to a completed reality. If we can’t get someone to do something, we will do it ourselves. If there’s some hard work involved, or a complex issue, or tight access, a challenging design or a low budget – we still make it happen
The final result is a light filled classroom with and adjacent staff office with a lovely northern outlook across the slopes and summit of Mt Keira. It's hard to imagine a nicer place to go to school and we hope this continues to encourage the children learning in such difficult circumstances.
